Personal Note from the Founder
Hello,
I am Jack Marshall, the co-founder and CEO of Actually Intelligent Security.
I started my first Internet company in 1995 and took my second company public in 1999.Shortly after that I partnered with a colleague to build a Cyber Security company that we sold to HP. Since then, I have been on the ground floor of 5 other cyber security companies, most recently Bolster.ai where I was CEO.
My extensive technical background coupled with my customer service skills have led me to critically evaluate the current Cyber Security landscape and I have come to two troubling conclusions.
There are too many security products. There are too many security programs not aligned with the core business.Let me explain.
The number of new cyber security companies funded in the last 4 years is astronomical. On a positive note, that pushes the industry forward. But it makes for homogenous solutions for unique problems. A formula that never works. Furthermore, sorting through hundreds of vendors is hard enough but making sure what you do purchase actually works is harder still. It is the classic quantity over quality debate. Actually Intelligent Security is clearly on the “quality” side of that debate. Efficacy of security controls is a fundamental part of our philosophy, i.e. make what you have work really well because it will save the client time and money.
The second problem may be the hardest but most important to deal with. Simply put, cyber security services often run counter to organizational goals. I have seen security teams clash with IT and development teams for over 20 years. This is not productive and, in my opinion, security should work hand-in-hand with the rest of the organization.
Think of your company as a sports team. Everyone has a position to play and everyone is counting on their teammates to not only be extremely good at their position but to play it with all the passion, energy and effort they can muster. And you help your teammates be successful. (Professional athletes call that an assist!)
Why? So, the team can win. And winning is fun. And profitable.
I play the Chief Information Security Officer position. I understand the threats, I know how to neutralize them, and I am a team player. So, while I’ve got your back, the rest of the team can score.
So, if you are overwhelmed by the profusion of products, tired of watching your team clash with the so-called security pros, and are ready to put together a winning team, give me a call.
